The 10-day WorldPride festival was capped off with a record setting parade. Over 12000 people took part.
I was fortunate to march with the Liberal Party. The parade started in the Church-Wellesley village around 1pm. We waited in the sweltering sun for nearly 4 hours before hitting the route. But it was all worth it to march with Kathleen Wynne!
Wynne also took part in Saturday morning’s annual 5K Pride and Remembrance run. Her finishing time was 31:26. Olivia Chow and Karen Stintz also ran.
This was the 34th time Toronto hosted a pride parade. But it’s the first time hosting WorldPride. Since it began in 2000, only 4 cities have hosted the event, including Rome, Jerusalem and London.
This year’s festival included a human rights conference. Hundreds of delegates from around the world took part.
