The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Raises $15.6 Million Of Cold Hard Cash

Think the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is stupid? Think again.

The challenge raises awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Notable people took the challenge – Britney Spears, James Franco, and Mayor Rob Ford to name a few – making the campaign viral.

From July 29 to August 18, the ALS Association in the U.S. raised $15.6 million. Compared that to last year where it raised $1.8 million in the same period.

On Monday morning, ALS Canada raised $63,000 of its $100,000 goal. By Tuesday morning, that number jumped to $197,035. They are extending their fundraising goal to $1 million.
