The byelection for Toronto Centre is quickly approaching on November 25th. The parties are firing up their campaigns in anticipation. Yesterday I had the chance to meet Linda McQuaig and NDP leader Tom Mulcair.
Linda McQuaig, a former Toronto Star columnist, is running for the New Democrats. She is fighting for affordable housing, public transit and secure jobs.
Regent Park is a community that supports her efforts. It is a changing community that is bridging the gap of income inequality.
It seems as though Regent Park is transforming before our eyes. The neighborhood that is comprised almost entirely social housing is now home to a new recreational facility. The Regent Park Aquatic Centre is a beautiful spectacle of luxurious architecture, complete with a swimming pool.
Linda McQuaig has written books on the subject of income equality. Writing that Canada is moving away from a place where everyone can get the support they need to an Americanized means-based system.
