Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis Arrested for Denying Same Sex Marriage License, Crowd Cheers

Kim Davis has been jailed in contempt of court for refusing to issue marriage licenses after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled to legalize same-sex marriage in June.

Ms. Davis argued that the Supreme Court order infringed upon her religious beliefs and liberties U.S. District Judge David Bunning ruled to jail Davis until she begins issuing marriage licenses because “her good faith belief is simply not a viable defense.”

Bluegrass politics reports that the crowd outside erupted in applause.

Hours after she was sent to jail she rejected a proposal that would have allowed her deputies to grant same-sex marriage licenses. She would have been considered for release from custody if she complied. Five of the six deputies told the Judge they would issue the licenses. The lone holdout was Ms. Davis’s son, Nathan

Kim Davis says, “I’ve weight the cost and I’m prepared to to jail… This is about upholding the word of God.”

But as many Twitter uses have pointed out, Kim has been married four times. Kim Davis’ twins were born five months after her divorce from her first husband. But were actually fathered by her eventual third husband. Who she divorced to marry her fourth husband.
