Donald Trump’s handshakes are just like who he is as a person: bizarre, aggressive and not very presidential. But hey, they give the internet a lot of memes.
It all started when you shook the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe’s hand. It lasted way too long and he Trump even yanked him in at one point. Just to polish off the awkwardness he commented how strong he was. Meanwhile Abe had the smile of a kidnap victim and was completely embarrassed for the sake of his people.
Whether it’s just a habit, or a way of dominating them, Trump has a way of pulling forcefully on the hand he’s shaking. We’ve spotted it now in handshakes with Vice President Mike Pence (on election night) and with Judge Neil Gorsuch (on the night Trump nominated Gorsuch to the Supreme Court).
But Justin Trudeau didn’t fall for Donald Trump’s awkward handshake. Instead, he took complete control of the situation and let go at the perfect time. Trudeau really is a tough guy and avoided the same embarrassment with a firmer grip. Trudeau used to engage in a bit of boxing.
What do you think of the Trump Pump? Would you let Donald Trump’s big hands yank you forcefully. Or do you think Donald Trump should learn some better alpha male techniques and learn to shake politely? Let me know in the comments below and don’t forget to subscribe.
