Alexis Sanchez was caught trying to smother a smirk as Arsenal suffered a Champions League defeat the Emirates.
Arsenal’s 5-1 defeat on Tuesday night saw Arsene Wenger’s crash out the last 16 for the seventh straight season.
The defeat was made worse for Arsenal fans after television cameras showed Alexis Sanchez trying to hide his smile after Arturo Vidal made it 5-1 to Bayern Munich.
It was unclear what prompted Sanchez’s smirk, but the timing of the reaction will be hard to handle for Arsenal fans.
The Chilean’s Arsenal future is uncertain after he walked out of training last week following an angry bust-up with teammates. It was alleged that Sanchez stormed off the training pitch in the middle of the session, which a number of his team-mates confronted him about in the locker room.
Arsene Wenger dropped Sanches for Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, although he maintained it was for tactical reasons.
Speaking after the game on BT Sport, Rio Ferdinand says he expects Alexis Sanche to leave Arsenal in the Summer.
“I don’t think this guy’s going to be here next season. He’s not going to sit there and say ‘this is for me.’ He will look at the gulf in class and think ‘I’m not going to win anything here’,” said Ferdinand.
