From political statements to on point performances, the AMAs 2016 was arguably the best award ceremony this year.

Selena Gomez gave an emotional speech.

“I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram anymore. I want to see what’s in here.”

Gigi Hadid did an impression of Melania Trump, who was outed for plagiarizing Michelle Obama.

Halsey owned the stage as she belted her heartfelt part of the Chainsmokers’ “Closer.” And Travis Barker made a guest appearance since the song does reference Blink 182.

Twenty One Pilots performed “Heathens” and “Stressed Out” in masks.

Fifth Harmony brought stylish post-apocalyptic vibes with a set that was inspired by the Mad Max movie. Against this back alley backdrop they performed “That’s My Girl” and nailed complex choreography.

Drake did his first ever AMA Win acceptance speech and referenced Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Shawn Mendes performed “Treat You Better” and “Mercy” that really proved himself as an excellent performer.

The Weeknd performed “Starboy” in a futuristic corridor straight from Superman’s home planet of Krypton.

Lady Gaga’s performance had a stunning setup where she sang “Million Reasons” barefoot under an expansive starry sky in a grassy field glowing with fireflies. Gaga’s voice was also impeccable.

Nicki Minaj & Ariana Grande performed a jungle-themed “Side to Side.” When the rap verse came, Minaj flipped her legs in the air and delivered her punch lines perfectly.

Green Day chanted “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA” during their performance of “Bang, Bang”.

Ariana’s grandmother’s face while she was accepting artist of the year was priceless.

But it wasn’t all good that night. Fifth Harmony’s was cut off and I felt personally offended. Bad AMAs.
